It had now been almost three weeks since I had been captured. About two and a half weeks since I found the Birthing Chamber. I was now about halfway through the gestation period of the Queen S'Tencha growing inside my womb. And, though inhuman, I was becoming very attached to the creature. Because I was giving it my life, I felt it was almost a part of me... something that depended on me.
In the two and a half weeks since discovering the Drone Birthing Chamber, I had rescued a total of about fifty host mothers, and we had pretty much formed a working society in my underground home. About ten of them had given birth, all of which I had been with when they did. This was my job down here. The caretaker and the doctor.
Thus I wasn't surprised much when Kelly, the first woman I saved from the Birthing Chamber, came into my quarters.
"Trish, you've gotta come. Sophie's going into labor!"
I was immediately up and out the door, Kelly close on my heels.
"When did it start?" I asked, running.
"About five minutes ago. We were playing cards when she just started screaming."
"She's in the Rec Room, then."
"Yeah."
"Is she movable?"
"I'm not sure. She's in a lot of pain - "
We entered the Rec Room, and heard and saw exactly what I expected: Sophie, lying on the floor, screaming, and spectators gathered all around. I plowed my way through to the prostrate Sophie, while Kelly cleared the area where the woman in labor lay. She was breathing fast and hard, her abdominal muscles contracting rapidly. I could not imagine what she was feeling.
"Sophie, listen to me. Breathe deep, and slow."
She tried to comply. Her breathing regulated for a moment, then reverted back to pained gasping.
"Sophie, when you feel a contraction, I want you to exhale really deep. Can you do that?"
She nodded.
A few seconds later, a contraction hit her, and she groaned as her abdominal muscles attempted to push the creature inside her out.
"Okay Sophie, that was good. Now, on - "
"No..."
She gasped, let out a pained scream, through gritted teeth.
"Augh..." She clutched her swollen stomach, "Something's wrong..."
She groaned again, and I looked over to her massive belly, which was now heaving. I lifted the dress she was wearing, revealing the gravid orb. My eyes widened in horror at the sight of her belly, for there was intense, violent movement that increased intensity each passing second.
"Please...do something!" She screamed as the movement in her stomach grew more horrific.
"I- GET ME A STRETCHER, NOW!"
But I realized that it would be too late by the time they arrived with it.
"Kelly, help me!"
She ran over, grabbing Sophie's feet, while I lifted her by the shoulders.

In that fashion we carried Sophie to the Infirmary, where we laid her down on a cot. Here, we had all the instruments that would be needed if we were to try and save the birthing woman.
I stripped her of all her clothes except her underwear, and I padded the sweat from her head with a cloth. I spoke softly: "Sophie, the birth isn't going normal. The embryo is trying to escape through your abdominal wall. It'll break out of your belly and kill you. But if we work together, you'll be okay."
She nodded through tears.
"What should I do?" Asked Kelly from the doorway.
"Wait outside," I said, giving her a steely gaze.
She did so.
I turned my attention back to Sophie, whose eyes were now encompassed by hot tears spilling down her face.
"Sophie, on three, I want you to push with all of your strength. Alright?"
She nodded once more.
"One, two, THREE!"
She pushed down, screaming all the while. The movement in her abdomen decreased as I saw a S'Tencha head begin to crown.
"Again, one, two, THREE!"
"AAAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHH!!!!"
Half of a S'Tencha body pushed out from within her. It's birthing cry rang out in the infirmary.
"Good girl! Good girl!" I said to the woman on the cot. "One
last time. PUSH!"
With a groan, Sophie pushed the last of the baby S'Tencha free. It fell with a slightly wet sound onto the cot.
As if affected by the environment of entirely humans, S'Tencha offspring born to our Colony shared many human features, as well as a loving disposition towards their mother and murderous rage toward those who attempted to harm her.
I dried off the newborn, wrapped it in a blanket and handed it to the exhausted Sophie. With plenty of rest, she would be fine. She would be allowed those few days before the next embryo began to gestate.
"Trisha...you saved my life," she said, holding her newborn offspring close.
"Maybe I'm just trying to make up for all the friends I failed when I came out here."
I left Sophie to some privacy, absentmindedly stroking my own belly as I made my way back to my quarters.

Her belly probably could've gotten larger, she hoped it didn't. She looked as if she was ready to pop any day now. She'd never wanted anything like this to happen to her in the first place.
For so long, she wasn't sure what was going to happen to her. N
